Forest of Arts
Guggenheim aims to set up an exemplar museum for the coming decades, which the engagement between civic and arts is a crucial topic. Besides, the siting in the city of Helsinki brings enormous potentials of interaction between Nordic and International arts.
Thus, this proposal creates a public ‘Urban Living Room’ for Helsinki. This Living Room is where the Nordic arts meet the International arts, and at the same time the public visitors are free to wander around to witness these artistic and simultaneous interactions.
The main building mass respects the Finnish Modernism part of the cityscape which is simple, elegant and functional like the Palace Hotel in a close proximity. But for the Urban Living Room in between the mass, it has a closer relationship to another part of the cityscape, the Tahtitornin Vuori Park behind the site, which is more humane and natural. With plenty plantation of the Finnish woods together with the interaction of arts within the building tubes in this Living Room, this will be a unique scene of the Forest of Arts, referencing to the signature scene of the vast Nordic Woodlands.
