Trend Chapel

Rise Commercial Centre (‘Rise’) sits in a small street within a very busy urban area.  The location is relatively not prominent, and it could be a bit difficult to find if one has never been there before.  But exactly due to this reason, Rise has never relied on those extravagant entrance lobbies, nor those vulgar shining light boxes.  No matter how hidden it might be, no matter whether it has a traditional shopping mall façade, once people want to find something unique and the trendiest, they will come to Rise.  One of the main reasons for Rise to become a symbol of trend in HK, is the desire of being different.  It is also the feeling of [Discovery - Surprise - Worship] which the other mega malls don’t have.

Therefore, our design proposal has no intention to establish any extravagant frontage, but to strengthen the characteristics of Rise.  We wish the visitors will have the feeling of mystery, treasure-hunting, and freshness every time they come to Rise.  It is not only a shop frontage design, but more like a chapel, a chapel that belongs to trendiness.  The main material is grey brick to create a cool mysterious atmosphere, it also creates a juxtaposition with the surrounding shops to raise curiosity of the visitors.  The diagonal entrance leaks out the colorful and bright light from Rise’s interior space, which again creates strong contrary with its exterior coolness and thus it attracts people to get in and to discover.  The bricks could be put in an arrangement so that light can leak through the cracks, and this can result in different atmosphere between day and night.  If viewed from some angles especially from the front, people can see a small cross in the elevation.  Of course this doesn’t represent any religion, but to subtly bring out the idea of a ‘Trend Chapel’
